My Personal Experience with the Coopers Beer Kit:
What I like about the Coopers Beer Kit is this homebrewing beer kit includes everything needed to make your first batch from start to finish. I like the fact that it makes 6 gallon batches compared to the 2 gallon batches other popular beer brewing kits make. The DVD included made making my first batch very easy; it walks you through absolutely everything. The size of the Coopers Beer Kit allows you to use other brands of beer ingredients; you’re not locked into the Coopers Brand ingredients if you want to try others out.

There isn’t much I don’t like about my Coopers Beer Kit. The only thing I can really think of is sometimes the lid can sometimes be tough to get of, but it does seal really well and I’m not sure it’s any tougher than removing a lid from a “Pale Kit”.

Overall, the Coopers Beer Kit is a great value, especially if you compare it to the other home beer brewing kits and what you get with them. On a scale of 1 to 5, taking all this into consideration, I would give it a 4.5. I bought mine about 3 years ago and I’m very happy with it.

Beer Machine Review

The Beer Machine differs from other home beer brewing kits. The Beer Machine is a beer brewery system and beer dispenser all wrapped up in one device.

The Beer Machine has been around for a while and can be a simple way to get started in home beer brewing. This system will brew 28 - 12 ounce beers in about 7 - 10 days time.

I don't personally have a beer machine but I had beer that was made with one and I can say that it's just as good as any other home brewed beer made with an extract kit. Another advantage to this system is you don't have to clean and store bottles, and believe me, this is one of the "unfun" parts of home brewing. With this system you simple put in your fridge and dispense beer from the tap. Just like at your favorite tavern!

Brewing Beer at Home: Basic Equipment

In order to get started brewing your own beer at home you'll
only need some real basic equipment that is inexpensive
and is easy to find. If you're just getting started it is suggested
that you start basic and go from there.

You'll need a brewing pot will hold at least three gallons.
Another essential item you'll need is a fermenter.
For the average five gallon batch, the fermenter
needs to accommodate at least six gallons, allowing space
for a foam that will form during the energetic
process of fermentation.

For this stage, a glass carboy or food grade
plastic bucket is often used. You will also need
an airlock for your fermenter to allow the C02
to escape while also holding back air. A
siphon hose is also needed to transfer beer from
the fermenter when it's ready, without having
to mix air into it.

A bottling pail will also help to make the bottling
process much easier. Bottling buckets are
similar to fermenters, except the fact that they
have a spigot at the bottom that allows you to
fill the bottles directly, which makes the
entire process less messy and gets the bottling
process done much quicker. You'll also need a capper to
cap your beer bottle or you can use a keg
to store and serve your beer.

You don't have to search far to find a beer
brewing kit that includes everything needed to get
started with brewing beer at home. You
can find kits on the Internet, many of
which offer the top quality equipment you'll
need to brew your first batch. There are several
choice available to choose from.

If you're not interested in going the kit route, you can
search the internet and brewing shops for the needed
hardware and parts. This will take more time and
can add up to more money than buying a complete kit,
but if you're lucky and know exactly what you need,
you may find someone who wants out of their beer

Make sure you get a good selection of beers. Be sure to include beers of all styles including. Dark, Hoppy, Ales, lambic, non-lambic, etc.

What I like about the Mr Beer Kit is this homebrewing beer kit includes everything you need to brew your first batch of beer. The Premium kits are relatively inexpensive and can be a good way to see if you’d enjoy making your own beer at home. This kit is easy to use, clean, and handle. This kit makes decent beer considering the simplicity of the system.

Mr Beer, in my opinion, would make a great gift for a husband, boyfriend, or anyone that may be interested brewing their own beer at home. Many home brewers got started with the Mr Beer system and have since gone on to bigger and more complex brewing systems.

The drawbacks to this kit can all depend on what you’re looking for. If you know you’re going to want to brew beer and grow you’re hobby, I’d suggest going with a larger 5 gallon kit. But for a gift or if you’re only experimenting with this as a new hobby this might be the perfect fit.

Overall, the Mr Beer Kit is a decent value.. On a scale of 1 to 5, taking all this into consideration, I would give it a 3.5 to a 4. This, of course, depends on what you’re looking for in a beer brewing kit.

Beer Brewing Equipment

Beer Brewing Equipment is essentially all the equipment you need to Brew your own beer at home. Beer brewing equipment is used to essentially support the simple chemistry that happens when you brew your own beer while keeping contaminates out that can ruin your batch of home brew. Some of the essential pieces of beer brewing equipment include:

• Fermenter – This is essentially the vessel that contains your wort while fermentation takes place. Your fermenter can be made out of plastic or glass. Depending on your method you can either have a single fermenter or two fermenters included in your beer brewing equipment list.
• Airlock – An airlock is what allows your fermenting brew to vent off CO2 to the atmosphere will keeping the outside air from getting into your Fermenter and potentially contaminating your wort. Airlocks are either plastic or glass. This is an essential piece of your beer brewing equipment list.
• Bottles – This is an obvious component, but bottles serve a function other than only storing your beer. Bottles are either glass or plastic (more specifically P.E.T. which stands for: polyethylene terephthalate). This is a food grade quality plastic). The bottles in your beer brewing equipment allow for the “conditioning” of your brew. This is what gives your beer its pressure in the bottle.
• Capper – This is an essential piece of beer brewing equipment if you use glass bottles to store your beer. There are several styles available.
• Hydrometer – A Hydrometer is used to measure the specific gravity of a liquid relative to water. Water has a specific gravity of 1. This is an essential piece of beer brewing equipment for determining the alcohol content of your beer or wine.
• Thermometer – A thermometer is an important piece of beer brewing equipment because some of the processes are temperature sensitive. This includes checking temperature when adding yeast or the temperature at which fermentation is taking place at.

Your specific type of beer brewing kit and method of brewing will determine your different pieces of beer brewing equipment. For instance, the kegging of beer is a great way to store and dispense your beer. This storage and dispensing method has a whole different set of beer brewing equipment pieces that essentially replace the bottles in your beer brewing equipment list. We’ll cover that later....

You’ll Enjoy Brewing Your Own Beer if…

Brewing my own beer at home is something I truly enjoy and like helping others with. I enjoy the process, the simple chemistry involved, the anticipation, the final product, and sharing it with my friends and family. Everyone has different hobbies and interests. If you’re not sure whether or not home brewing is for you here’s a few characteristics of those who home brew and enjoy it quite a bit (these certainly describe me).

· They enjoy drinking beer and like trying new styles of beer (duh).
· They enjoy cooking and trying or experimenting with new recipes.
· They like learning how things work or how things are made.
· They are willing to try new things out, and take pride in their accomplishments.

Those are a few characteristics that I definitely have as well as some of my buddies who also brew beer or make their own wine at home. Hope that helps!

Try out new beer styles…

As the micro brewed and craft beers have become increasingly popular over the last few years. The awareness of the different varieties and styles of beer have become more and more evident. Many home brewers can tell you the characteristics of Lager beer vs. an IPA (Indian Pale Ale) and how they are brewed. Much like a wine connoisseur could tell you the difference between a Merlot and a Blush.

It can be both fun and informative to experiment with some different beer styles. Try out a Stout and Wheat beer or see how an Indian Pale Ale compares to a Pale Ale. Some larger liquor store also sponsor beer tasting events where the different distributers will allow you to taste test their different styles of beer. I highly recommend this if you have the opportunity.

There are now several micro breweries who market “Variety Packs” that allows you to try out several different styles, I also have a liquor store that I visit that allows you to mix-and-match six packs so you can pick and choose what beer go into your 6 pack. This is a good way to try out different beer types because you can easily taste the different styles next to each other. I do this often because it gives me an idea of what type of Beer brewing Extract Kit I want to try out next.

Economics of Home Brewing

You can’t argue that any hobby has an associated cost to it. Many people hunt, fish, like to cook, etc. One of the coolest things I like about brewing beer at home is that if you are going to drink X number of beers you can save money by brewing your own vs. going to the liquor store and buying a 6-pack or a case of beer.
If you haven’t noticed, micro-brews or craft beers are quite expensive when you compare them to, well let’s just say some American Pilsner style beers, that I admit, drank a ton of these in my younger days. But as we get older our tastes become more refined and quality, not quantity becomes more important.

Depending on your location and what beer you get, a quality craft beer is going to cost you $7 - $10 per six pack. You will save a little bit by opting for a case but for comparison reasons let just say the cost per beer is: $1.25. When you compare this to the cost of brewing your own 5 gallon batch at home you’ll spend about $30 to make 5 gallons of beer (with an extract kit). That equals about $.57 per beer or about $3.42 per six pack.

Here’s another way to look at it:
Cost of 1 six pack a week from the store: $9 X’s 52 weeks = $468.00 per year.
Cost of a home brew six pack per week: $3.42 X’s 52 weeks = $177.84 per year.
Sure you can factor some other variables but you can conservatively save $250 a year or about $5 each week. That doesn’t even factor in the fact that you hopefully enjoy brewing your own beer and that my friend is priceless.

My First Home Brewing Experience

Hi Beer Lovers,

It wouldn't be fair for me to say that every single beer batch I've made was a success, well I could say it but it simply wouldn't be true. My very first experience with making beer at home wasn't a success....

I can't remember if it was 2 or 3 Xmas's ago, my wife got me a small home beer brewing kit. Needless to say I was super excited. What a perfect gift, right? Well not quite, let me explain. The kit was a kit that is sold at Bed Bath and Beyond, if my memory serves me right it had a couple different dry malts and a small fermenter, that was large enough to do 6 12 ounce beers at a time. It also came with hops, dextrose (corn sugar) and 6 plastic bottles. Here's a picture...

Well needless to say when you start brewing you'll learn (or already know) that cleaning is about the number #1 thing of importance when you're brewing beer. The amount of cleaning and cooking, etc is pretty much the same if you're brewing enough beer for a 6 pack or 2 1/2 cases.

Fast forward to the end the beer didn't ferment. Not sure if the yeast was no good or if I screwed something up.

Bottom line if you're buying your man or whoever a beer brewing kit, opt for a known quality kit. He'll appreciate it, and if he doesn't like it, these kits can be easily sold on ebay.

I started brewing beer at home about 2 years ago and I've learned so much about it that I want to share some of my newly gained knowledge and help others get started with this rewarding hobby.

My name is Jason Bolte. I live in North Dakota, where we have winter about 9 months out of the year (not really...but close). I've been brewing beer from kits for about 2 years. Mr Beer Cider Kits are very popular. Making your own hard cider at home is simple. Basically there are only a few basic ingredients. The ingredients to make homemade hard cider are:

Apple Cider or an Apple Cider Extract Kit
Clean good tasting tap water or bottle spring water
A quality cider yeast for fermentation
Sugars or another fermenting ingredient to achieve the proper level of alcohol %
